My testimony

In the first chapter of the gospel of Luke, when Mary is speaking to the angel Gabriel she said in verse thirty-eight “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” I know she never would have chosen the life of misery, but serving our Lord was more important. I would have never chosen to live a life with A-T, but I recognize that serving the Lord is much more important than what I would have chosen. Mary probably didn’t look on this piece of news as a sentence of misery, but a calling for a special purpose. I choose not to look at A-T as a sentence of misery, but a calling for His special purpose. A mark. A brand. For His use forever wherever He leads me.
Mary then becomes very grateful and praises the Lord in song from verses forty-seven to fifty-five. I am grateful God has blessed me with A-T and He will help me view A-T, not as a curse, but as a calling for His purpose and I know that all things will come together for the good of those who love Him and I will never stop loving Him.

  1. Wow...Cathryn.. so beautifully written. YOU are a blessing to those who come to know you. As you know, I have sons who have disabilities... not in the same 'ball field' as your AT disease, of course...so, different but the same. I am thinking especially about our Jesse, who needs so much more help and patience than a 'typical' person would need. It is hard, not only sometimes, but often, to care for him and supervise him and to meet his needs.. however, he has also been my teacher, my mentor, my inspiration, my paradigm shift in how I view life, in what I consider to be a priority. Your mom is a very dear friend, and I am sure she has similar words to express about being your mom and care provider. The 'world' may, out of ignorance, look at you, or at my Jesse, and suggest that you or my Jesse are a 'burden'... but we, your mom and I know... that the people who might voice such a judgment lack something that we know, intimately... we have a glimpse of unconditional love, and of sacrificial love... and that, helps us to be more like Jesus. Thank you, Cathryn... it is an honor and a privilege to know you, and your family. Thank God for my lovable, difficult Jesse (and his siblings)... without them, without you and and many others, how very shallow would my life be? We need you, Cathryn!! The Lord knew that and sent you to be a blessing. Is it easy? Of course not.. but in the end, God is glorified, and we have the hope and promise of eternity... God bless you, Cathryn!
